While 2013 was all about vibrant and vivid, the New Year demands that we relax, unwind and tone down with softer palettes. Pantone’s newest colour trends for 2014 include light blues (but also still strong navy), soothing purples, alternative greens and calming yellows.
This year’s line between orange and red is as fine as ever while earth tones have evolved into creamier, more subtle and luscious tones. However, it really is all about neutrals. Neutrals in 2014 are much cooler yet very inviting and serve as the base for colour schemes or even accents. Yes, neutral accents are bound to be very popular in the year to come. However, the star of the year and the colour voted best by interior designers for 2014 is Radiant Orchid. The lush hue of Radiant Orchid will be seen on walls, fabrics, ornaments and even floors. It is calming and almost as regal as navy blue but with a much-needed refreshing twist. Do not be surprised if you see orchid upholstery on sofas and cushions or even orchid wallpaper on bathroom walls. So, give it a go, be inspired and fill your spaces with colour and fashion.
